Photography (Whakaahua) - Level 3

Qualification: NCEA Level 3

Entry requirements: NCEA Art Level 2 Photography. Exceptions may be made only in consultation with the HOD Art.  It is highly recommended that students have their own DSLR digital camera. A  limited number of cameras are available for school use.

Content/Skills: Year 13 Photography is a specialist course that focusses on extending ākonga knowledge and understanding of photographic practice in the production of artworks. Ākonga will develop their skills in DSLR camera and studio photography as well as digital editing processes using Adobe Lightroom CC & Photoshop.

Ākonga select their own theme that they are passionate about for the years study and work independently on a practical investigation for a 3-board portfolio.

Ākonga develop a range of transferable skills through the course that will equip them for future study or work opportunities. Skills such as communication, critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, research and analysis, adaptability and innovation.

Students wishing to pursue a career in any of the fields of Visual Arts (Architecture, Advertising, Illustration, Film, Interior or Graphic Design, Digital Photography) are prepared for tertiary study.

Stationery costs will range from: $40.00 - $60.00 depending on what equipment a student may already have.

Each ākonga will be provided with access to Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and print credit for completed work for the formative and summative assessments. For all extra printing ākonga will need to purchase print credit.

Please be aware that this course has associated costs. By selecting this course you will be requested to make contributions connected to its delivery. These costs for specialist art materials are: $45.00

Ākonga also have the possibility of outsourcing the final work for the External Portfolio. This cost will be: $81.00

2 Internal Achievement Standards worth 8 credits

1 External Achievement Standard worth 14 credits
