Whānau and Pasifika Celebration Evening

Adrienne Huia, HOD Māori —

On Thursday, November 07 we held a farewell evening for our Pasifika and Whānau leavers of 2019.

This night is always a poignant moment to thank the girls for their wonderful contributions to our Whānau and Pasifika communities. This year the students have been an outstanding cohort in terms of their engagement in all aspects of our school and they will be greatly missed as they head off into the wider world. We thank them for being great leaders. We thank them for their positivity. We thank them for being such great role models and for helping so many of their ‘tēina’ find connection within our school.

Farewell and good luck to Shyloh, Mele Fifita, Mele Peseta, Ruth, Olivia, Sam, Sarah, Hailey, Jaidyn, Alexis, Shana, Minnie, Bella, Aaria, Maddy and Trilly.

Thank you also to all the staff and whanau who came along to support the girls and help make the evening so special.

Junior Award Recipients

Another part of our evening was to present two junior awards. These awards are memorial awards for a student who lost a courageous battle against cancer in 2015. The award acknowledges our students for their contribution to Pasifika and Kaupapa Māori here at Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora. Congratulations to our 2019 recipients;

  • Hineata Purdon and Maringi Huia - ‘Jamie-Lee Rising Star Award’ for services to Whānau.
  • Fesuiai Taiulu - ‘Jamie-Lee Rising Star Award’ for services to Pasifika.
