Cantamath 2019

Karen Hooper, Mathematics HOLA —

On Wednesday 28th August three Year 9 and two Year 10 teams went to the Horncastle Arena to compete in the 2019 Cantamath competition.

The evening was memorable as the Horncastle Arena was filled with hundreds of excited and very noisy Year 7 to 10 students who were competing in the team competitions. Our Year 9 and year 10 teams worked hard and achieved good scores. This was a great effort as competition was fierce.

As well as the team competitions there were also Cantamath projects. Christchurch Girls’ High entered projects in a number of categories and received 15 awards. 9Kht produced the awesome class project shown below. It was about how Mathematics is used across different cultures. They were awarded Excellence awards in the Class Project category and for the Overall Theme. 9Kht were also awarded one of the four overall Outstanding Awards for all Cantamath projects.

Also of note was Neha Gowda who gained an Excellence award for her mathematical poster, Anna-Marie Browne who gained Excellence for her Publicity Motif, and Frankie Binnie, Mana Hiramoto, Maia Godfrey-Chatterton and Kayla Pringle also received an Excellence award for their Wearable Mathematics.

Well done Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora.
