Victoria University of Wellington

  • School-leaver scholarships
  • Applications for the Te Herenga Waka─Victoria University of Wellington school-leaver scholarships are now open and close on 1 September.
  • There are seven scholarships available, three of which are new:
  • Tangiwai Scholarship, which celebrates excellence, both academic and outside the classroom, worth $5,000–$10,000.
  • Totoweka Scholarship, focused on equity and support, for students who are Māori or Pasifika, come from socio-economically disadvantaged or refugee backgrounds, identify as LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui, or who have a disability, worth $5,000–$10,000
  • Raukaraka Scholarship, for leadership outside and inside the classroom, worth $5,000–$10,000
  • Kahotea Scholarship, for outstanding achievement, worth up to $35,000 over three years.

NEW SCHOOL-LEAVER SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Pakohe Scholarship—for sustainability which recognises the University's commitment to supporting students who have demonstrated sustainability qualities that align with our aim to be a global thought leader, by integrating sustainability into all we do.
  • Scholarships are valued at $5,000 to $10,000 for the first year of study.
  • Kahurangi Scholarship—for exceptional Māori students.
  • The scholarship package includes full accommodation costs for the first year on the Marino floor in Joan Stevens Hall, where tikanga Māori (Māori cultural practices) and te reo Māori (Māori language) are part of everyday life. There is dedicated pastoral support, plus $5,000 towards tuition fees in the second and third years of study. For students who are not in a hall of residence, a $15,000 fees contribution can be taken evenly across three years
  • Mana Pasifika Scholarship—for exceptional Pasifika students.
  • The scholarship package includes full accommodation costs for the first year in a Victoria University of Wellington hall of residence. There is dedicated pastoral support, plus $5,000 towards tuition fees in the second and third years of study. For students who are not in a hall, a $15,000 fees contribution can be taken evenly across three years.
  • International students studying at New Zealand secondary schools can apply for the Wellington International Excellence Scholarship. 2024 accommodation

  • Applications for our halls of residence opened on Tuesday 1 August. We encourage students to get their applications in early, as the halls will start offering places from mid-September. Open Day is a great opportunity for students to visit and tour the halls.
  • To help students explore their accommodation options, they can use the halls comparison tool on our website. If they are unable to attend open day, they can book a tour of the halls of their choice on our website.

Learn more New Bachelor of Psychology

In 2024, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington will launch Aotearoa’s only Bachelor of Psychology (BPsyc). This new degree will give students the skills to be part of positive, transformative change for all New Zealanders, and they’ll learn from staff who are leading voices in areas such as mental health, crime prevention and rehabilitation, cultural psychology, and brain sciences.

The degree is based around the required Psychological Science major, which is made up of 12 courses covering a broad range of key topics in psychology. The BPsyc will produce graduates that are psychologically literate and critical and creative thinkers.

They’ll be prepared for a diverse range of careers in fields such as the health sector, government, the justice system, human resources, education, or research.

Come along to one of our Application Evenings and get sorted for 2024. See a short presentation focusing on upcoming application closing dates and how to complete your application. Our Engagement team will be available to answer any questions and provide the one-on-one support you need. We'll help you get your ID documents, admission and enrolment form and additional requirement submissions sorted.

Coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.

Application Evenings can be attended in person at the City campus on Madras Street.
