Poipoia Te Kākano Kia Puawai - Nurture The Seed, And It Will Blossom

Kezia Fowler-Blyth, Environment Prefect —

Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora now has their very own satellite nursery stocked up and ready to go!

In association with the Eco-Action Nursery Trust, 500 native seedlings from Travis Wetland, growing equipment, and potting mix from Canterbury Landscape Services have been donated to the school. The seedlings will be potted up and cared for by the Year 11 Geography students, the Garden Club, and the Environment Committee until this time next year when they will be ready to be planted in the Christchurch Red Zone.

Last Sunday a good number of girls and a couple of teachers took part in one of the community plantings of the QEII Adventure Nature Trail. 1100 native plants, including five tōtara trees, were planted in just over an hour! A huge thank you to the founder of the Trust, David Newton, for providing this opportunity. His passion for the project - to create a “green spine” of native plants from the city to the sea - is inspiring and we look forward to working together with him on this for years to come.

If you are interested in getting involved in this project and developing your green thumb, the next community planting will be held from 10 am-12 pm on June 21st on Chimera Crescent.

Nau mai haere mai!
