Canterbury Cross Country Championships 2019

Hayley Burson —

It was a great autumn day for cross country running and our CGHS athletes had wonderful results.

The Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships were held at Ascot Golf Course on the 28th May. We had 19 runners representing CGHS across 3 age groups. It was great to see some new runners in Year 9 showing interest in distance running and entering this event. We hope to build on this and continue the great success that CGHS has exhibited over the past few years.

Standout performers on the day were as follows:

Year 9 Girls

  • Pippa Baker 5th

U16 Girls

  • Madeline Sharpe 3rd
  • Emma Parke 4th

Senior Girls

  • Ella McDonald 4th
  • Rosie Trotter 5th
  • Sophie Williamson 7th

We showed fantastic depth amongst our runners by gaining a place in the team event across all age groups. The top 4 runners contributed to the overall team score.

The Year 9 Girls gained 3rd place - Pippa Baker, Tinesha Benson, Isabella Parmenter, Lucy Haller.

The U16 Girls gained 2nd place - Madeline Sharpe, Emma Parke, Jessie Workman, Kate Bartlett.

The Senior Girls gained 1st place - Ella McDonald, Rosie Trotter, Sophie Williamson, Lili Ovendale.

Well done girls.
