Cultural Committee 2020

CGHS —

At Girls' High it is our great fortune to have an abundance of students who have extreme talent and interest in the arts and cultural fields.

As the Cultural and Arts prefect of 2020 I feel honoured to have represented such a vital area of growth and education, and I am extremely proud of the efforts of all students this year. Despite the difficult circumstances, they managed to maintain optimism and enthusiasm towards the cultural and arts efforts of our school this year.

This year I had the privilege of leading the Cultural Committee which is made up of students from the music, drama, sound and lighting committees, as well as the dance group or who hold general interest in supporting the cultural events. For obvious reasons this year, it has been an unfortunate challenge for students involved in these groups to fulfil their potential in performance due to a lack of performance opportunities. Despite this, there have been many achievements, acts and smaller concert opportunities along with the misfortune and challenges that the rules of different covid levels brought to us.

The Cultural Committee met weekly to discuss the organisational aspects of the musical showcase this year and the Royal Variety show. This includes organising the acts and talent in the performance, stage and lighting features.  A wonderful opportunity, which is a continuation of the Cultural Showcase that was introduced by 2019’s Cultural Prefect, was this year’s Royal Variety Show.

The Royal Variety show is a diverse and exhilarating experience and I am honoured to have run and organised the show with the Cultural Committee of 2020. The show offered the students a wonderful opportunity to showcase any talent they would like to, whether it be by request or voluntary. The Cultural Committee organised this in its entirety alongside myself, Miss Tinworth, Mrs Garrett and Mr Sawyer.

It has been my absolute pleasure to lead such a wonderful group of ambitious students in an area of such creativity and talent. I am very optimistic about the next year's opportunities and events available for the Cultural Committee to organise once again. I remind anyone from Years 9-13 to get involved, as it not only offers great opportunities, involvement in performance areas that are very exciting, but also a feeling of great satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment when you see the impact of your support and help towards some fantastic events at our school.
