Success at the Surf Life Saving Championships

Robin Brown —

Over the course of four days (14 – 17 March), four of our senior students competed at the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships at Mount Maunganui.

Three students were competing for different clubs but enjoyed success across a range of events. Stella Crossan (competing for Spencer Park) placed 2nd in U17 ski, 7th in U19 ski and 9th in Open double ski.  Alex Carmichael (competing for New Brighton) placed 1st in the U19 surfboats long course race with her team.

Maggie Hill (competing for Waimairi) placed 3rd with her team in the long course surf canoe. Sophia Devereux (competing for Sumner) made the finals for the surf race and run, swim run. Making a final in individual events at the Surf Life Saving Nationals is a huge deal alone,  there would be at least 80 people in each race and it is incredibly competitive.

Well done to these students!

One of our staff members was also competing over the four days and achieved some great results – well done Miss Rachael Cleeve (competing for Waimairi).
