Kei kona a wairua tonu ahau mo ake tonu atu

Kate was tragically taken from us on February 15, 2021, in a car accident. Kate was the loved daughter of Jane and Rob, adored sister of Emma, and Pippa and cherished member of our school community.

We were all blessed to have had Kate in our lives, her energy and enthusiasm was contagious. Kate lived her short life to the fullest. She was a beautiful, smart and inspiring student.

Kate was a talented equestrian at both national and international levels, she helped lead the school's kapa haka group, and participated at Ngā Manu Kōrero speech competitions two times, placing highly in both. Kate began her journey with Te Ao Māori at CGHS in Year 9, which led to her selection as the Whānau Prefect for 2021, which was a massive accomplishment that she was immensely proud of.

Kate was her own person and knew what she wanted in life. She was never shy of telling you either. She had a quiet wairua and a warmth that invited others in. Kate was known for defining success by personal milestones and enjoyment rather than grades, and for this she was a cheerful and engaged student.

Kate’s friends knew her as a humorous, determined and supportive wahine who led a colourful life. Kate’s peers respected her, and the juniors looked up to her as our Whānau Prefect. Kate had many friends across all year groups in the school, and we all cherish the times we spent together with her. The Whānau community keeps Kate’s memory alive through kapa haka, and her friends love to recount their best Kate stories to remember the funny person she was. Being one of Kate’s peers at CGHS was an honour, she was truly a very special person who was loved by many, and is dearly missed.
