International students at Christchurch Girls’ High School can experience being part of a real New Zealand family lifestyle through being placed at one of our high-quality homestays.
Living with a New Zealand family is an excellent way of improving English and experiencing New Zealand culture first hand. Students are treated as a member of the family and are well cared for.
Homestay families can help drop students off at school and pick them up on their first day, but most students travel to and from school by bus. All homestays are on or near the school bus route, travelling this way is very safe and convenient.
For international students living in homestays, Christchurch Girls’ High School is required to visit the home of the Homestay prior to enrolment to determine that the living conditions are of an acceptable standard and meet the conditions of the Education Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
This includes carrying out police checks, obtaining reference checks, and visiting the homestay every six months, and of course, lots of ongoing communication.
