Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora will possibly be closed Wednesday 29 March 2023 due to an intended PPTA member strike. Confirmation will be communicated Monday 27 March 2023.

All New Zealand state and state-integrated secondary schools at which there are employees who are PPTA members will be affected by the strike.

The Board of Trustees have decided to close the school for the day with no supervision provided for U14 students if the strike goes ahead. Under strike employment regulations we are not able to require non-union staff to be on site so we are unable to guarantee supervision should students turn up on Wednesday morning.

We had planned to hold our Academic assembly on this day and have made the decision to move this to Wednesday the 5 April to allow whānau to make alternative arrangements to attend in advance. We have to act on the presumption that this will go ahead.

For absolute clarity, if the school is closed on Wednesday 29 March there will be no supervision provided for any students.
