Tūhono kapa haka competition.

Bethany Crossan —

Last weekend, the Te Kura o Hine Waiora kapa haka group stood at the Tūhono kapa haka competition. We performed a waiata tira (choral) called Māreikura, which was dedicated to our special friend, our whānau prefect and member of our group who stood at these competitions in 2020, Kate Gutry.

We also performed a waiata ā-ringa (action song) which was a song about the importance of wai and the environment and a haka which was all about our kura.

The group performed amazingly. As this was only our second time competing in these competitions we were absolutely stoked to win first place for our waiata tira, waiata ā-ringa, small group/soloists, and uniform and come second place overall.

We are incredibly proud of the group. All the girls showed an amazing level of commitment and hard work throughout the whole campaign and the strong relationships and memories created are truly special.

Finally, a big mihi to Whaea Adrienne and Whaea Grace for their tutoring and Taiaho Huia for his guitaring.

Ngā mihi nui
