News From The Charities Team

Eliza Dalzell —

On March 22nd, we held a kākahu kāinga (non-uniform day) in support of Brackenridge & Cholmondeley Children's centre.

Brackenridge was established in 1999, and is a charitable organization that provides support to children, young people, and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism from within the Canterbury region. Cholmondeley House provides short-term, planned, and emergency respite care for tamariki aged 3-12 years, as well as support to their whānau. Cholmondeley operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, open 48 weeks a year serving the needs of the Canterbury Community. Each year Brackenridge and Cholmondeley House need to fundraise approximately $2.2 million, which is 70% of their annual operating costs.

As a school, we raised $867.00 to be split between these amazing charities to help support them and all that they do. These are both great local charities that Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora is proud to support.

Our next non-uniform day is coming up on Thursday the 9th of June. The funds made from this non-uniform day are going towards our school charity, which we have chosen to be Youthline.

Youthline is an organisation that supports young people throughout Aotearoa who are struggling (with their mental health or other issues), as well as young people who want to learn, grow and give back to their community.

Youthline operates a 24/7 Helpline service (text, phone, webchat & email), free face-to-face counseling services, youth mentoring and programs in schools and communities to help people grow and develop. Youthline is a registered charity that relies on the support of others to continue to provide support to young New Zealanders.

We are excited to be backing such a great cause, Youthline, for 2022 so make sure to get the gold coins ready for Thursday 9th June.
