Secondary Schools' Squash Nationals

Katie Light (Captain) —

On Thursday morning of the first of the month six CGHS Squash players including Katie Light (Captain), Caitlin Millard, Olive Bartlett-Mowat, Lily Collier, Genevieve McCorkindale, Petra Curd-McCullough and Ms Lawrence woke up bright and early to depart for the squash nationals.

This year the nationals were held in Tauranga, flying Jetstar via Auckland, so we had a fair way to go before we could start on the courts. All very excited we went to the airport and boarded our flight to Auckland. After arriving we piled into the van with all our gear and drove to Tauranga. But it wasn’t all just driving we did a bit of sightseeing too, stopping on the way to see the giant L&P bottle in Paeroa. We arrived in Tauranga, had some dinner and hit our beds early ready for a big day on Friday.

Friday morning was another early start with a welcome Powhiri at the squash courts by Tauranga Boys' College and Tauranga Girls' College. After this we got into the games, we all played well and came away with three wins for Christchurch Girls' High School to win the match. Friday afternoon was a lot of fun having a tiki tour to Mt Maunganui, and even the Kiwi fruit farm. All exhausted from the day we filled our tummies and slept like logs.
