Year 13 Barista Club

Bronwyn Sullivan —

This year the Year 13 Culinary Studies students had the opportunity to run a 'cafe' before school each morning.

The students made coffees and hot chocolates for staff and students. They charged $3.00 for a basic coffee with all profit made going to charity.

They were so excited to raise $920.00 over the two terms the cafe operated. The baristas were a dedicated team who arrived between 7.30am and 8.45am each morning to run the cafe.

In winter it was cold and dark, but the students always arrived enthusiastically and made coffees as good as, if not better than many Christchurch Cafes.

Another fabulous benefit of the cafe was that the Barista Club Students gained experience and were confident to apply for and get barista positions after school and for the holidays.

The charity chosen for this year was the North Canterbury Rural Support Trust, they support the mental health of families and farmers from Kaikoura, Selwyn, Christchurch and the Banks Peninsula areas.
