Evelyn King —

This Wednesday, we held an assembly in honour of Unity Week.

Unity Week is an initiative established by the Sakinah Community Trust. Seven women who lost loved ones in the mosque attacks created Unity Week with the goal of remembering and honouring the lives lost, while also promoting a socially cohesive society.

From today until the 21st March, they are running numerous activities taking place in Christchurch. This includes a 51 Threads exhibition, a Unity walk, Unity Summit, Word on the Street, a Unity Motorcycle Ride and a Unity Picnic and Peace Train. For more information, this is the link to the Unity Week website: https://www.unityweek.co.nz/

Today is the fifth anniversary of the attacks, and these activities are a great way of supporting the Unity movement and remembering all those we lost today, five years ago. To commemorate the March 15th terror attacks that occurred in 2019, we also held a moment of reflection, including a speech from a student and a moment of silence.
