Badminton

This year Christchurch Girls’ High School had a total of 17 badminton groups, which was a lot more than in previous years.

We hosted a number of schools from all over Christchurch each Wednesday after school, which gave us a good opportunity to compete against other schools and to improve our own skills. We had a very successful season during Term 2 and Term 3.

A huge congratulations to the CGHS Silver Team who ended up with the outstanding result of 3rd place out of total 9 Girls B grade teams.  The CGHS Kakariki and Bronze team came 2nd and 3rd place out of total 10 Girls C grade teams.   We have also had the A teams travel to Omramru to play against the Omarama Girls’ High School.

Our annual CGHS Badminton Championship Tournament was held again this year with both junior and senior competitors. After several tight games, we had winners for Senior Singles/Doubles and Junior Singles/Doubles. Congratulations to Lily Sawyer for winning the senior singles and Mary Balmonia for winning the junior singles. Our winners for the senior doubles are Suma and Huilin and winners for the junior doubles are Mariah Evangelista and Airene Campo but thank you to everyone who has participated in the Championship Tournament this year and you guys have all played very well.

A special mention to the captain of CGHS badminton A team Chloe McMurdo who came 6 place in the National Under 17 Badminton Championship, her team came in 2nd place at the South Island Canterbury Age Group Badminton Championship and she also came 2nd place for Canterbury Individual Badminton Single Game Championship. Good job Chloe! We are very proud of you.

A massive thank you to all the badminton players for the effort you have put in which were a real credit to the school and made our school’s badminton season very successful, I’m sure it will be another fabulous year for CGHS badminton in 2019.
