Absence/Illness or Appointments

Information on absentee/illness or appointments

If your young person is ill or late the parent or caregiver should either:

  • email attendance@cghs.school.nz
  • use the school app or
  • leave a message on the attendance line which is open 24/7, giving a reason for their absence/lateness. (Ph. 348-0849 ext 702)

If the parent/caregiver does not leave a message, a text message will be sent to them and if no reply received your young person will be marked truant.

If your young person needs to go to the Dentist or the Doctor your child MUST sign out from the office and will only be allowed to go if contact about the appointment has been made prior by a parent/caregiver. This must be done before school or during a break, not at time of departure as this may hold your child up. When they return from their appointment they need to sign in at the office and collect a late slip to show their teacher.

If they leave the school without signing out at the office they will be automatically marked as truant. A note will not be accepted after the fact.

If parents would like their young person to have time off school for any reason other than an appointment, you must write to Mrs Peawini, Assistant Principal, (pwl@cghs.school.nz) requesting this at least a week in advance. The Assistant Principal will consider each case on its merits after consulting teachers. Any student who has been granted such leave must see their teachers in advance to discuss what they can do to compensate for the time lost and work missed.

If leave is taken without prior approval, an absence note will be expected as usual, but the absence will still be coded as unjustified.
