And That's A Wrap - Hockey 2022

Kayla Leslie —

In 2022, Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora Hockey was again successful across the board. It was great to see 8 teams entered into the Canterbury competition this year, including a social team and 2 Year 9 teams.

It was awesome to see the development made by each team throughout the season, which couldn’t have been possible without our amazing volunteer coaches and managers who contributed their time to our players this year - a big thank you!

We are super proud of how well our teams did this year, with some highlights being our 1st XI, 3rd XI and the White team making their respective SSP and SSL finals, as well as the 1st XI winning the SSP Knockout competition and being the Connetics Shield holders for 2022!

Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora 2nd XI finished 5th in the SSL Division 1 competition and won the Bronze medal at the National 2nd XI tournament - Chris Arthur Cup in Taupo.

Another highlight of the Hockey season was our 1st and 2nd XI fundraiser, A Night with Sir Gordon Tietjens. It was great to hear from such a well-decorated coach and gain some insight into his philosophies, both in sporting and life contexts. Thanks to Mel Brown for organising this event for our teams, it was a fantastic night!

With quite a few changes on the Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora  Hockey committee this year, it was great to see how smoothly our season ran and that we were able to provide a fun Hockey experience for everyone, especially given the challenges of Covid over the last couple of seasons. We hope everyone has enjoyed their 2022 season with Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora Hockey and we are looking forward to celebrating all of our teams at Prize giving on 21st September!

We wish all of our Year 13 players who are moving on next year all the very best, and thank you for your good sportsmanship this year.
