Great results, awesome team camaraderie and fun in the sun

What a great day at Ngā Puna Wai in Christchurch for the 2025 Primary School Canterbury Athletics Championships, where Cheviot Area School had 20 athletes representing our school and the Hurunui zone from shot put to 800m.

Well done to our team, Pippa Hewett, Maddie Wilkinson, Grace Ferris, Isobel Sheild, Tilly Norton, Kobe Hazeldine, Drew Adams, Oscar Wallace, Mikaela Hall, Julia van Reenen, Rosy Beaven, Lexi Wynn, Kayla Bolton, Jack Forrester, Liam Tabayoyoung, Indy Norton, Isabel Pavey, Zara Handyside, Rylee Hazeldine and Ada Chambers.

The students showed support for each other and cheered from the sidelines helping most achieve personal bests in their events.

A big congratulations to the following athletes who had top 20 finishes:

Maddie Wilkinson : 800m - 15th

Kobe Hazeldine : 800m - 16th

Oscar Wallace : High jump - 7th

Mikaela Hall : High Jump - 2nd, 80m 6th , Long Jump 12th

Jack Forrester : 800m - 5th, 80m 2nd, Long Jump 5th

Rylee Hazeldine: 60m - 7th

Indy Norton : Long Jump - 2nd , Discus 4th

Liam Tabayoyoung : 60m 1st
