Impetigo - School Sores
We have had a confirmed case of school sores at school. These are highly contagious sores that start out as small, ordinary looking sores and can quickly become infected and pus-filled. Once infected they will likely need to be treated with antibiotics from a Doctor.
If you see any concerning sores on your child's skin then please book a visit to the Doctor. If impetigo is diagnosed and antibiotics are given then please keep your child home until the sores have dried up or until at least 24 hours after starting the antibiotics. It would be a good idea to cover the sores while at school to prevent re-infection. However, as always, please follow your Doctor's advice. Good hand washing and keeping short fingernails will help to prevent spread.
