A sporting round up for Term 1
It was great to see so many of our students participating in our sporting events this term. Congratulations to all those students who qualified for Hurunui and Canterbury sporting events.
Thank you to all parents who have supported our children with transport, without this support these sporting trips can't happen.
The Yr 7-8 Girls and Boys Cricket teams played in the Canterbury Country 20:20 cricket tournament at the beginning of the term. Congratulations to both teams for a competitive tournament. Thank you to their coaches/scorers from both teams, Blair Kirkland, Murray Sidey, Chris Mulcock and Emma Mulcock. Your help and cricket expertise is much appreciated.
Cheviot Area school hosted the Hurunui Primary Swimming sports this year. We had 30 students participating against all the Hurunui Schools. It was great to have the pool finished and ready in time for this event. It was a very successful day for all our CAS swimmers. We had 8 children qualify for Canterbury Primary Swimming Sports. These children went on to represent the Hurunui Zone at Selwyn Aquatic centre on Thursday 8th April. A special Thank you to Shelley Ashford for coming in and doing lunch time trainings with the children, we really appreciate your help. Congratulations to Jemma Hanna, Michael Allison, Hinetearorangi Wilson, James Allison who placed 3rd Yr 8 Boys Breaststroke, DK Feron, Scarlette Ensor, Elea Chambers and Damien Feron. Thank you Ginny Allison and Karli Chambers for timekeeping duties on this day.
The Hanmer springs Yr 5-8 Hurunui Duathlon was a great day out with fabulous weather and a big group of 20 excited children taking on the Hanmer easy rider track. Thank you to the parents for supporting this event with transport. The Yr 5-6 distance was - Run 2km, Bike 6km and the Yr 7-8 Run 3km, Bike 9km. We had some great results for our CAS children Yr 8 Girls - Katie Pain 3rd, YR 8 Boys Jack A'Court 1st, Jock Sidey 2nd, Louis Lidgard 3rd, YR 6 Boys Tyler Petersen 2nd.
A very excited group of Yr 3/4 children headed to the Hurunui Tee Ball tournament on Monday the 12th April. This was held at Scargill domain on a sweltering hot NW day! The kids showed awesome skill after lots of practice for this at school. Thank you to the wonderful parents who helped manage a team on the day.
