Big work starts on our pool

Blair Sheat —

We are excited to confirm that the upgrade of our pool starts next week.

A collaborative effort between the Cheviot Swimming Club and Cheviot Area School to do a much-needed upgrade to our school pool starts next week. The Swimming Club has done a significant amount of work in securing a sizeable financial contribution through grant applications, which when added to the school improvement funding has allowed us to upgrade our much-loved pool.

It is a complete overhaul that will provide the safe and enjoyable use of the pool for years to come!

The improvements include a new pool liner, pipework, pump and filtration system, new pump shed, and automated chemical dispensing system. Awesome!

The work starts next week and is scheduled to be completed by Christmas.

We are all excited to be able to resume our swimming program here at school in Term 1 2021 and have already booked in WaiSwim to once again support our precious students to be safe and confident in the water.

Pool keys will be available for our community. They will be available for season hire only and can be purchased from the school office from the 16th of November. The cost is $75 for the season plus a $25 bond. The funds from pool key hire go directly towards the cost of running the pool outside of school hours, which far outweighs the Government funding that we receive. Times will be set aside for lane swimming in 2021 once the school timetable has been established.

The pool being out of action during the improvement works is a frustration for us all. But the work is necessary and is the result of the commitment of the Board of Trustees (to provide a quality resource for our students and families), and the huge efforts from key members of the Cheviot Swimming Club to secure funding make this a reality.
