Welcome to term 2

Blair Sheat —

The holidays are over and work begins!

Firstly I would like to welcome Scot Puckett to Cheviot. Scot is our new PE and Health teacher for term 2, replacing Scott Bermingham. Having the same name made him the obvious choice! Scot is an experienced teacher with a wide range of experiences that include being the Strength and Conditioning coach for Mid Canterbury Rugby Union, NZ Heartland Rugby, and the Tongan Rugby World Cup team. I am sure he will contribute strongly as a staff member here and will enjoy being part of our team.

Di Dixon, Rhonda Knight and Claire Duncan have picked up the classes that Anna Birmingham taught last term. It is wonderful to have staff that are flexible and capable in a wide variety areas that help us to provide continuity in our students learning programs.

Over the holidays some improvement  work was undertaken in the school. New carpet in the Library and admin area, new water storage tank, spoutings replaced and other plumbing work. Further work is scheduled this year and include redevelopment of the pool changing area and removal of the tennis rebound wall (due to earthquake damage).

Lastly I would like to acknowledge the efforts that were made by all to contribute to a moving and memorable ANZAC service. This year was my first ANZAC day service at Cheviot and I was blown away by the numbers of people involved from all parts of the community. Particularly significant were the number of young people that proudly marched in the parade, or just came down to be part of the service. This is a strong community that acknowledges and respects the efforts of those that went before them. I am proud to be part of this and  I strive to contribute towards  building a strong future for the young people of this community.
