Duke of Edinburgh Awards 2022

Our First Duke of Edinburgh Award Recipient - Makayla Eades

Congratulations to Makayla Eades on being the first student at Cheviot Area School to receive the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Bronze Award in recognition of the commitment she has put into completing a variety of activities.

To achieve the award, Makayla has completed 13 hours of Voluntary Service helping out as a teacher aid in the primary school; she has also continued developing her dancing skills as part of the Physical Recreation section of the award. This was her major section (26 hours) and she completed this with the assistance of the Frankie Harris Dance Academy. Frankie recognised the tremendous progress that Makayla has made over the year in her dancing skills. As part of the Skills Section (another 13 hours), Makayla chose to devote her time to improving her acting skills and took part in the local production of Spamalot. Finally, as part of her Adventurous Journey, she took part in a practice journey of two days and one night tramping before completing the St James's track over five days and four nights.

This is awesome achievement for Makayla and from here she has the opportunity to progress on to the Silver and Gold awards over the next few years. As the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award Leader here at Cheviot, I have been incredibly proud of Makayla's achievement and the work that she and her fellow peers have also put into this since May 2022.
