Sports Term 2

Sports Coordinator —

Sporting events are starting up again! After the disrupted term 1 it will be awesome to see our students back out this term enjoying winter sports.

First up this term we have our CAS cross country on Tuesday 17th May (PP18/05).  All our students should have been around the course by now.  Even if your child is not a runner being out and walking the course is still worth a house point!  Our Yr 4-8 1st and 2nd place getters then go onto compete at the Hurunui Cross Country held in Scargill Valley, on Tuesday 31st May (PP 2/5), this will require parent transport.  If placed 1st in your year group (Yr 5-8) at this event they then go on to represent Hurunui at Canterbury Cross Country, 22nd June (PP29thJune).

Distance for Hurunui & Canterbury Cross Country: Yr 8 Girls/Boys -3km, Yr 7 Girls/Boys -3km, Yr 6 Girls/Boys-2km, Yr 5 Girls/Boys-2km, Yr 4 Girls/Boys-1 km.

With community winter sports starting this week, good luck to all players and teams. If you have sporting team/individual acheivments throughout the year please let the office know so we can celebrate these.  Lunchtime sporting events are happening in the school, if you are a coach/parent and would like to hold lunchtime sports please email the office for more info.

We had CASA/TOSI trials at the end of last term for our senior students.  It was a great experience for our students to go to Rangiora and compete against other Canterbury Area Schools in their chosen sports.  Well done to the following students who were successful at these trials and are off to Murchison for top of the south trials.

Scott Hoban-Volleyball, Lucy Hyde and Natasha Hoban-Netball.

Good luck for your next trial.

Please keep an eye out in school bags for notices if you have a sporting event coming up.  It is important that these forms are returned by the due date to help with organizing and entering events and transport.  As the term goes on and covid allows more sports may become available.

Home and School will be at our cross country with a sausage sizzle so please bring a couple of dollars save room for a sausage and support them with their fundraising efforts for CAS.

Good luck to all our students at CAS cross country.
