Productive first term for CAS photography students

Di Dixon —

Our Level 1 and 2 art students have chosen photography as the main focus for the year.

Our senior class of seven art students have had a great term. They have chosen to focus on still life images for their internal and we have planned our work around the theme of 'Finding Beauty in the Mundane'. We all liked the idea of looking closer at everyday objects and appreciating the forgotten or cast-off objects and items. It is easy to find beauty in a perfectly formed flower - but what about vegetable scraps? Rotten fruit? Stinky seaweed? Funky fungi ? We have had lots of fun investigating the elements and principles of art as we find ways to use composition, light and negative space to make our ugly, boring or everyday objects more captivating and interesting.

Some highlights from the term have been playing with powder paint and old vegetables, field trips to the domain and Manuka bay and entering photographs into the Cheviot Show with a first place to Lexi Inch and third placings to Bree Leef and Zhardonnay Porima in the open sections !

The following images are all raw and exactly as they were captured in frame, there is no cropping, digital manipulation, filters or editing.
