School Guidelines

Chisnallwood Intermediate - February 28, 2023

Read on for details of our school guidelines.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is required by law, and children may only be kept from school in cases of illness or bereavement. The school is not empowered to make exemptions to this section of the Education Act. An explanation for absence is required, preferably in the form of a telephone message, via the skool loop app or email.

Unexplained absences may lead to the Board of Trustees' involvement and in extreme cases to Court action.

Sickness at School

The school policy is to inform parents or caregivers immediately if children become ill or are injured at school. Parents and caregivers are expected to make necessary arrangements to collect children and take them home. It is essential that the school has home and work telephone numbers as well as alternative emergency contact details and the name of the family doctor in the case of an extreme emergency.

Homework

The amount of homework set will vary from teacher to teacher, but in general, children will be expected to complete half an hour each night (Monday to Thursday) with optional homework on weekends.

Bikes

Bikes are to be left in the school bike compound (entrance off Pembroke Street) during the day.  We recommend that all bikes, and scooters be securely locked. The school does not accept any responsibility for bikes left at school – this is done entirely at the owner's risk.

Lunches

Chisnallwood is part of the school's free lunch programme.  The school does sell food from the Canteen at a moderate cost at morning tea only, with an emphasis on healthy food. Subway can also be ordered on a Monday and Wednesday each week via ezlunch Tel:  0800 EZLUNCH or visit mykindo.co.nz

Stationery

Stationery Lists are available at the beginning of each year and are placed on our website and can be found in the Start of Year Information Publication. We are a BYOD school and the device required is a Chromebook.

Library

The school has a well-stocked library from which students are encouraged to borrow books. Parents are required to take responsibility for books lost or damaged during the time of the loan and to ensure that books taken home are cared for and returned undamaged.

Damage to School Property

Students at Chisnallwood are encouraged to take care of their school but in the event of breakage or damage resulting from vandalism or carelessness, restitution will be sought.

Lost Property is located in Room 17
