2018 Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival

Kathy Baker —

An event to celebrate and acknowledge the varying cultures of Āotearoa. This year's theme "Whiria te Tangata." Weave the people together.

Our performance  certainly reflected the theme. From the South Pacific to the North Atlantic, kapahaka to Celtic  music. Tuesday 4 September with a combined group in excess of a 100 students, Chisnallwood participated in The Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival at Horncastle Arena.  A mini showcase highlighting the enormous talent and diversity  of our students. Ruia te Kākano, Pasifika, and the Irish  band performed separately , coming together with the accompaniment of the Jazz band, to entertain the audience with the presentation of our school song, "We are Chisnallwood."  Our students would like to take this opportunity to thank all  their whānau. Thanks is also extended to Mrs Bell, Matua Te Huaki, Ms Baker, Mr Enosa, Miss Woodall, Mrs Paniora, Ms Western and Te Wera Pitama ( a past pupil of Ruia te Kākano) for their organisation and support with uniforms and gear. The experience of participating in this festival allows us to identify and connect culturally. Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Dia dhuit and looking forward to doing it all again next year.
