Chisnallwood Girls strong showing at NZ Shield Cricket Tournament.
The Chisnallwood Girls Cricket team travelled to Hagley Park to compete in the NZ Shield on Thursday and Friday last week.
The team competed strongly on day one with convincing wins over Sumner School and Hillview Christian School. On day two Chisnallwood met a very strong Cobham side who bowled very well to dismiss Chisnallwood for 55 runs, Hannah Osbourn scoring 30. In reply Chisnallwood put pressure on the strong Cobham line up taking 5 wickets but their total was eventually overhauled to take the win.
This meant Chisnallwood would meet last years national champions Heaton in the semi final. Heaton batted first and were very aggressive without taking too many risks and put the Chisnallwood bowlers under pressure. Heaton eventually finished up scoring 140 from their 13 overs (reduced due to rain). In reply Chisnallwood managed to bat out the full compliment of overs but were well short of the total Honey Gosney played very well with some great shots to end the innings.
Considering the majority of this team were very new to cricket they all performed very well and can be very proud of their performance! Well done girls!
