Saxophone Workshop & Big Band Workshop with Rodger Fox
by Akina Baker
On Sunday 22 October, I attended a saxophone instrumental workshop with Oscar Laven and a Big Band workshop with Roger Fox. In the saxophone workshop, we learnt about what kind of music you can play on the saxophone as well as what different mouth pieces sound like and how they make different sounds on the saxophone. We also learnt how to actively listen to music, noticing what we can hear as well as the different sounds in the music. It was exciting to hear what I would be able to do one day. At the Roger Fox workshop we played ‘One Sixty Blues’ and ‘A minor Case of the Blues’. They were both very fun to play with the band and we also got to see a lot of other musicians and it sounded very nice when we all played it together.
