Maori Music Mentoring Day

Harry Methven, Thea Downs and Rata Christensen —

On Monday 20 August we went to Burnside High School to be involved in the Maori Music Mentoring day.

When we arrived we began by introducing ourselves. There were 2-3 students representing each school from the the Waimairi-iri cluster, along with Majic (a Reggae artist) and Viola and Nathan Riki. We started by getting told that we were going to be writing a song and getting the structure of it. We decided we were going to be writing a bilingual song and split into 2 different groups. Each of them started to write a verse each, with Majic and Nathan Riki taking turns to play the guitar. After our lunch break, we put it all together. We had 2 verses, a chorus and a bridge. After we had been through many practices, we were ready. We lined up and filmed it together. We all really enjoyed the inspirational opportunity.
