Faith Facts Term 2 2021

Liturgical Year

Wednesday 7 July is the Feast Day of Blessed Peter To Rot. He was a Catechist (a teacher of the Catholic Faith) in Papua New Guinea in the 1940’s during World War II. He was arrested and murdered because he refused to stop teaching villagers about Jesus and leading them in prayer. This makes him a Martyr (a person who gives up their life for the faith).

The Mass

Last week in our faith facts we learnt about the First Reading at Mass and the Responsorial Psalm which are part of the Liturgy of the Word. Next we hear the Second Reading and this is usually an epistle, that is, a letter from the New Testament. This leads to the climax of the Liturgy of the Word: the proclamation of the Gospel. The homily that follows connects the messages from the readings we have just listened to to our lives. The homily, prepared by the priest, both comfort us and challenge us to live out the messages from the readings we have listened to.
