A message from the Principal
Kia ora koutou, nei ra te mihi, maioha ki a koutou katoa. Hello everyone, special greetings to you all. This newsletter is being sent to you hours before our entire Middle and Senior School bring you Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits.
Their dress rehearsal for our Junior School on Tuesday was a wonderful opportunity for the cast to prepare for the big performance.
It was most apparent that the many hours spent in auditions, rehearsals, dance practise and making the props has been well worth the while. Students and staff could see the fruits of their labour and put on a fabulous show. The show is written to be a laugh a minute and the children certainly do it justice. If you have not already secured your ticket, they can be purchased on the night, front of house.
The Education Review Office will be visiting us next week and will be in our school from Monday through to Thursday. They will be meeting with our whole school community, students, staff, trustees and parents looking at effective practice for improvement and learner success.
Jeanette Ruri and Murray South of the Dunedin Office will be conducting the review. Please be aware that staff will be occupied in meetings and discussions over this week with the ERO reviewers and may be difficult to contact in some instances.
The Christchurch City Council Cycle Safety staff were in our school last week taking our Year 6 students through their paces with road rules theory and out on the road. This course is a very practical training session that our children are most enthusiastic about and fully immerse themselves in. It gives them a firm knowledge base in cycle safety and road rules to be able take to the road on their bike as Year 7 students.
It is a busy week for the arts, with our choir performing in the Christchurch Music Festival at the Christchurch Town Hall on Friday night. Ninety schools will be performing over 4 nights and this marks a return to the much loved venue that had previously hosted the Festival prior to the 2011 earthquakes. Good luck to Mrs Kearns and our choir, many of whom have leading parts in our production.
Good luck to all those students who have made the athletics team for the Canterbury Centrals athletics next week. Do not forget there is early morning coaching available to provide you with a chance to improve on your performance that got you into the team initially. Thanks to those teachers and parents that are providing this early morning coaching.
See you at the show.
