Water polo
Canterbury Water polo Championship (A grade)
The day started with a meeting at the Apollo centre where a few rules were explained along with some words of advice from a New Zealand National players and a famous Hungarian player as well as birthday wishes.
Our first game was against Casebrook A, who are quite a strong team. We had played them in two previous finals throughout the year and beaten them each time. The final score was 8-5 to CTK.
After a short break and a training session we started our second game against Cobham B which was the 3rd time the original Cobham team had been split. It wasn’t as much of a challenging as the game before as we beat them by over 15 goals.
Game 3 was against Breens B we were resting ourselves for the big important game against Cobham A. Again a big win!!
After a well deserved three hour break we went back to the pool for our biggest game of the day verse Cobham A. After an intense game the score ended up being 5-2 to CTK. After winning we were all feeling very proud of ourselves and looking forward to a good night's sleep before we come back for the playoffs’ the next day.
After a good long sleep we came back to the pool with a fighting spirit ready to play Casebrook B. During warmup the coaches discussed a plan to let all of the people that hadn't scored a goal yet to get one in this game. We started the game with Lachlan seagulling ( staying up on attack and not coming back on defense until he get passed the ball with know one marking them and score a goal). After Lachlan scored his goal we let all the others score and ended up winning the game 16-1 to CTK.
Because of our outstanding round robin placing we had quite an easy semi to save ourselves for the final.
This was the game that we had entered the tournament for. It was the big final CTK vs Cobham A. At half time we were down 2-1 and looking to comeback. We did make the comeback and went on to win the game 4-2 the last minute was a bit of a play around as we had possession of the ball and everybody was starting to celebrate.
A massive thanks to all the parents who helped and a special mention to Sam and Pat O’Neill, Sam and Kylie Rochford and the Creagh’s for their hospitality.
