Message from our Principal

Joanna ManginSeptember 24, 2020

Kia ora koutou, nei ra te mihi, maioha ki a koutou katoa. Hello everyone, special greetings to you all.

With our return to Alert Level 1 it means we can now go ahead with the First Holy Communion Mass with far less restrictions. The children have shown a great deal of patience in waiting to receive the Eucharist at Mass for the first time, and we wish them all God’s blessings for their big day. Thank you to Kaelyn for her patience and perseverance during the year, and we look forward to celebrating our Mass together this Sunday the 27 September at 1.00pm.

Our busy term has continued right up to the final week, with our Year 5-6 students embarking on a 3 day camp to Woodend, and the Year 4 and Junior School cross-country taking place at Jellie Park on Wednesday. Our Year 5-6s are having a wonderful time, as the Woodend venue provides a myriad of different activities that our students find decidedly diverse and challenging.

The Year 4 and Junior School children were so excited about their big race. It was wonderful to see their anticipation and delight pre-race and they did not let the exhaustion of middle distance running dampen their enthusiasm. The children had prayed for a fine day, however none of us were predicting the hot temperatures we experienced at race time. Thank you for the huge turnout of parents on the day, and to Lisa Murray for her overall organization of the event and her team of staff helpers.

Our CTK Year 7-8 Cantamaths team event, speech finals and the CTK Talent Quest finals were also held last week, adding to the events calendar. The Cantamaths contest was held at school because the Christchurch wide event had to be cancelled. All our students seemed to relish the opportunity to take part because of the competition and team challenge thinking they experienced.

Congratulations to Bree Christensen, Joe Coyle, Luke Coyle and Alexa Lyon in making the Northwest Speech Finals. This speech competition is very keenly contested, and to get through to the final requires a very high standard of public speaking ability.

The CTK Talent quest was also keenly contested and special congratulations goes to all those students who took part and showcased their talents to the school. The judges commented on the diverse and quality performances that kept us all thoroughly entertained. First place: Nicole Chin, Lucy-Ana Zakaria, Jillian Zamudio and Zhea de Peralta, Second place: Kaylana Jang and Third place: Nathaniel Sia. Thank you for entering everyone, without you we could not have a show.

Finally thank you for your cooperation this term under Alert Level 2, we appreciate your support and help over this period, as the children were aware of our combined approach to keeping them safe. Enjoy the holiday break.

Nga mihi

Mike Bonisch
