A Message from the Principal

Welcome back. This term promises to be action packed, with some major events happening in the school.

The most momentous of these is our production for the Middle and Senior Schools, Shakespeare Rocks. Auditions have already been conducted and roles cast, with these auditions confirming, and at the same time, discovering some real talent in our school. There is no doubt that we’ll be calling on the wider school community as the show date draws near.

There will be two shows, a matinee performance and an evening time slot, as the venue is the Villa Maria auditorium which is smaller than the Aurora Centre. The two shows provide ample opportunity for all whanau members to attend. This is a large part of our curriculum for Term 3 so you should hear a great deal about Shakespeare this term.

Thank you for the great turnout at the Forming Faith evening held on Tuesday evening. We were absolutely thrilled with the packed venue. It was an opportunity to explain how our our Special Character underpins the culture of our school and how we can strengthen home, school and parish links.

During the meeting Abraham referred to the Family/Whanau booklet that assists with home/school partnership and answered some queries about this resource after the meeting. He has attached this booklet as a PDF to this newsletter so you can access it at home. If you would like a paper copy please come and see us and we will help with this resource.

For the past two terms Jessie, our Mandarin Learning Assistant, and Mrs Abbott have been teaching Mandarin language and culture in the Senior School every Friday. This term Jessie and Mrs Abbott will be teaching Mandarin on a Friday in the Middle School. We are fortunate to be in this Asian Language Learning in Schools (ALLiS) programme under the auspices of Burnside High School and receiving such expert and creative tuition.

On the staff front, the Board of Trustees has granted Olivia Gill a years leave to travel overseas in 2018. We‘re delighted for Olivia to have this opportunity to experience this right of passage that so many Kiwi’s embark on during their life time. I’m sure the whole Christ the King school community will join with me in wishing her all the best on her overseas sojourn. Good luck Olivia.
