Kia ora koutou, nei ra te mihi, maioha ki a koutou katoa. Hello everyone, special greetings to you all. This morning's announcement of two confirmed Covid cases in Christchurch has dramatically changed the introduction to our newsletter written yesterday. We now have to wait until the 1.00pm announcements today to see how these new cases will impact upon Alert Levels and the ramifications they bring.
Iona Holsted, Secretary for Education, produces regular bulletins informing us of new information and outlining policies and procedures that must be followed. We will know more at 1.00pm and will keep you updated on HERO as to any changes that come into play, as soon as they come to hand, so please keep referring to the HERO app.
Schools will soon have to ensure that staff and all other itinerant visitors to our school have either been fully vaccinated, or at least begun the process. Thankfully we have a situation where all concerned are working in the best interests of our children and the school.
Staff are currently doing their best to ensure that all events at Christ the King continue to go ahead and give our students every opportunity to participate in the normal curriculum, as well as the extracurricular activities. Our production of Superstan is going ahead at this stage, (please see the letter with all the information pertaining to this) with two shows at 4pm and 7pm.
A Google form will be sent out at the end of this week covering how to obtain tickets. Families will need to select which time slot they prefer. Each family will have two tickets allocated but there may be additional tickets available once all requests are received. All tickets must be purchased in pairs to ensure social distancing during the performance. The seating arrangements are consistent with Aurora Centre policy and have been approved by the Board of Trustees
Our best wishes and prayers go to all those students who will make their First Holy Communion on the weekend of 6-7th of November. This is a major event in the children’s faith journey and will remain in their memories for years to come. It is great that this sacrament is still going ahead and the children are being put at the centre. We know spaces in the Church will be limited, however with two Masses held over the weekend, organisers know we will be able to cater for everyone.
Congratulations also goes to our Rotary Speech finalists who spoke last Wednesday night at Breens Intermediate. The standard at this competition is always very high so our results were particularly heartening. The following students represented Christ the King. Samuel Amaris (Yr 8) 3rd place, Cohen Voight (Yr 8) Highly Commended, Christine Shaji (Yr 7) Highly Commended, Luke Coyle (Yr 6) 2nd place, Poppy Washington (Yr 4) Highly Commended.
Thanks to Ryan McInnes and his team for rearranging our Athletics venues on Tuesday, it was a fantastic day and well organised between the two sites. The children were very adaptable, alternating between Christ the King and Burnside High School and ensuring we had a great day. Well done everyone.
