A message from the Principal

Thank you for your support of our Student Led Conferences this term.

In talking to the children about their preparation for the Conference and the detail that goes into them, there is always a great deal of expectation and excitement about having you here at school to view and understand their place of learning.

Tomorrow a letter will come home informing you of our Forming Faith evening to be held on Tuesday 7 August. Please make yourself aware of the purpose of this evening. We intend this meeting to run for approximately one hour followed by a social gathering with drinks and nibbles. Your support would be appreciated.

The teachers from the Burnside Learning Community Cluster are holding an “Unconference” on Monday 10 July at St Andrew’s College. The number of Early Childhood, Primary, Intermediate and Secondary teachers now involved is in the vicinity of 200 participants, and growing. As part of this Unconference the BLCC is hosting Nathan Wallis as the keynote speaker. Nathan is a father of three and a foster parent, with a professional background in child counselling and social service management.

Until recently he lectured in Human Development at the University of Canterbury, and was also a board member and senior trainer with the highly respected Brainwave Trust. His lectures are very informative, thought provoking and practical. The event organisers are offering parents an opportunity to hear Nathan speak about brain development in the St Andrew’s College Chapel on Monday 10 July at 7.00pm. We have 5 free tickets to give away (1 per person) to parents, to hear Nathan’s presentation, from the school office. Tickets have been previously advertised at $10.00.

Thank you for your support this term of Caritas and our Young Vinnies with their can drive. Peter Callanan of St Vincent de Paul has been working with our Special Character team and distributing this food throughout the wider Christchurch community. Helping in this process gives our students a view as to how community services such as this function. Without your help we simply couldn’t do it.

We hope you have a restful holiday and enjoy the break with family and friends.
