Avonside Girls' High School

Christchurch Educated —

Young women at Avonside Girls’ High School are challenged to achieve personal excellence in a progressive and supportive learning environment.

Established in 1928, Avonside Girls' High School is known for its warm, caring, and welcoming atmosphere and strong academic record.

With a roll of 1100 girls, Avonside Girls' High School is a culturally diverse community. International students are an important part of our school and they are welcomed with friendliness as we value the richness and diversity they have to offer.

In 2019 Avoside Girl's High School moved to the wonderful new facilities of the brand new Orua Paeroa campus. On the campus, Avonside Girls’ High School and Shirley Boys’ High School operate side by side, along with a satellite class from Ferndale School, all working independently within their own school space but also having the opportunity to use key facilities that are shared.

All schools maintain their unique culture and identity while also taking advantage of the opportunities that come with sharing the campus. Those opportunities include sharing of facilities such as the two theatres, library, cafeteria, commercial kitchen for senior Hospitality classes, additional gymnasium, artificial sports turf, cultural space, etc. There is also some limited sharing of students in senior classes, where numbers make this a sensible option.
