NZEI (NZ Primary Teachers' Union) Update
As you may have seen or read about in the media, negotiations for the NZ Primary Teachers' Collective contract is in process. Last week many of our teachers at Clearview and across the country attended Paid Union Meetings to discuss the Ministry of Education's latest offer of pay and conditions. Further negotiations and actions will continue into 2023 as this process continues.
As a parent community one of the major conditions that affects your whanau are the teacher to student ratio. Currently the primary sector has by far the highest ratios. Most teachers are currently managing large classes whilst trying to cater for hugely diverse needs, lay solid numeracy and literacy foundations as well as the many other social and emotional needs that need to be addressed to give each child the level of education they deserve. The NZEI are negotiating for smaller class sizes as well as significantly more resourcing to address these complex needs.
We value our parent community's support going forward with this process. Further information will be available in the early new year.
