Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

This week, we have had a team from ERO (Education Review Office) at school, conducting their review of Clearview.  It has been an in-depth and positive process which allowed us to share our context for learning, our achievement information, our self-review practices and how we have continued to make improvements as a school.   They are now in the process of synthesising the information they have seen, read and heard over the past four days and we look forward to hearing their findings soon.

Our students never cease to amaze me.  Recently, many of our children have followed their interests and passions and participated in a range of events.  Last night, I had the pleasure of watching our Senior Kapahaka Group perform at the Christchurch Schools Cultural Festival at Horncastle Arena.  They were absolutely awesome!  The time and effort they have put into practices over past months was evident in the way they performed last night.  We are so proud of them all - well done.

Also, two weeks ago we had two Clearview teams compete at a regional "Tournaments of Mind" event in Christchurch.  This was the first year Clearview has entered any teams and the great news is that we had our STEM (Science Technology Engineering, Mathematics) Team win their category.  That means they have qualified to compete at the National Tournaments of Mind event in Wellington in a couple of weeks time.  They are currently fundraising for this amazing opportunity.  Congratulations to them all, what a fantastic result.

Next week, we have most of our Year 7/8 students involved in the Koru Games.  This multi-sport event runs over four days at venues across the Selwyn District.  There are thousands of children involved in the Koru Games from all over the South Island, so no doubt competition will be fierce.  I wish our teams all the very best for the week ahead.

In our last newsletter, I mentioned that we have started looking at the organisation and structure for 2020.  This includes staffing, how teams will be organised, where they will be located and of course student HB placements.  In today's newsletter is an article which explains the student placement procedure we use when forming homebases for next year.

We recognise that for both parents and students, the thought of changing year level, homebase, teacher and even learning space can be a time of uncertainty. I can assure you that we take this process seriously and work extremely hard to ensure that we form well-balanced homebases across the school taking into account a range of things that will set the children up for success. This process will start early next term and as part of this, we invite parents to make contact with their current child's Team Leader in writing to let them know of anything you feel should be considered when the time comes to place your child into a homebase for 2020.  Please take  a moment to read this separate article and familiarise yourself with our procedure, thanks!

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a relaxing weekend.
