Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

Over the past few months, there have been some significant consultation reviews held around three different topics that members of our school and community were offered the opportunity to contribute ideas and feedback towards:

1.  The future priorities for Clearview Primary - strategic direction

In our last newsletter, there was an article detailing our emerging strategic goals and priorities for the next 4 years.  In summary, we have defined 3 goals for Clearview Primary:  Learning, Belonging and Innovating.  We are now in the process of establishing the actions and strategies to bring these goals to life.  Early next year, we will be in the position to proudly share the full picture with you all.

2.  Enrolment zone amendment and provision of a new secondary school in Rolleston

The key part of this review/consultation for Clearview Primary is the amendments to our current enrolment zone.  There were a few areas that needed to be clearly defined and 'tidied up'.  These are just minor amendments, however, it's really good for you to know what they are.  We have updated the enrolment zone information on our school website - this is available for viewing now.  These new amendments will take effect from 01 January 2021.  Here is a picture of the amended zone:

3. Distance Learning and COVID-19 stories

Following the lockdown in March-April we wanted to capture the voice and stories from our school community as well as the whole Rolleston area.  Therefore, we conducted the largest review I have had the pleasure of being involved with.  With a whopping 1700 responses, we were able to obtain a unique insight into how our people coped during the lockdown, how they experienced distance learning and how they found transitioning back to school.  I am absolutely thrilled to have the report completed and we will share this with you all before the school year ends.  It will be included in our final newsletter for the year.

Staffing News:

We have some much loved and respected staff members departing Clearview at the end of this year.

Leigh Fowler - one of our Associate Principal's has recently been appointed as the new Principal of Marshland School.  She will begin this new position at the beginning of next year.  Leigh has been at Clearview for the past 2 years and she has had a significantly positive impact on our school during this time.  She will make a truly amazing Principal and we congratulate her on this exciting new appointment.

Serena Holm - one of our teachers who has been a key member of our teaching team for the past 10 years at Clearview.  Serena will be starting a new position as an RTLB (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour) at the beginning of next year.  With Serena's extensive experience, knowledge and skills, teaching across all levels, we know that she will make a fantastic RTLB.

Alice Wilkinson - HB 33 Teacher.  Alice has had a long affiliation with Clearview having taught here before going overseas, then to return to us again this year.  She has been a true asset and is valued by us all.  Alice is leaving Clearview to have a baby.

Emma Brown - HB 7 Teacher.  Emma started with us at Clearview mid-way through last year and she has been an amazing junior room teacher.  We have been extremely lucky to have Emma on our team and wish her well for her new position at Our Lady of Victories School.

Bec Varcoe - HB 30 Teacher.  Bec is leaving us at the end of Week 8 as she is due to have her first baby in early January. We warmly welcome back Rebekah Smith who will be covering Bec for the final two weeks of term.

Jeannie Hood - Five to Nine Cafe Manager.  After 3 outstanding years managing our beloved school cafe, Jeannie will depart Clearview at the end of this year to support her children as they begin a new chapter of education in town.  The success of our cafe is a credit to Jeannie, the environment she has created here is simply amazing, her barista skills are on-point too :)

Chelsea Jenkins - Chelsea joined our team at the beginning of Term 3 as a roll growth NE teacher in HB 4.  We do hope to have Chelsea continue on staff again next year and thank her for her amazing work teaching our new entrant students this year.

These people are all quality educators and we wish them all the very best.

As you know, the school year is drawing to an end soon, it's hard to believe we have less than 3 weeks left!  There are lots of things happening around our school over the coming weeks, so please take note of the upcoming events section of this newsletter.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a relaxing weekend.
