Representative Choir Auditions for 2017 Music Festival

Erin Sutherland —

- CLOSE END OF TERM 1 -

Student applications to audition for Representative Groups in the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival will be closing at the end of this term.

The groups are:

  • Junior Choir (Years 5 & 6)
  • Senior Choir (Years 7 & 8)
  • Concert Band (Years 5-8)
  • Orchestra (Years 5-8)

The Special Groups are considered the musical equivalent of being selected for a Canterbury representative sports team. Students need to have a high standard of musical experience in order to pass auditions, and be offered places in these groups.

Students do not need to be learning their instrument at Clearview to be eligible. For the instrumental groups, the students would need to be at least at a Grade 5+ level of competence.

Due to the limited places available, and large number of auditioners for the representative groups, the Music Festival committee has very strict attendance requirements. If selected, students must attend a holiday course during the September/October holidays. They also must attend weekly rehearsals, dress rehearsals on each of the three days of the festival, and the three nights of the festival. (The Clearview Choir sings on only one of these nights.)

There is also a registration fee of $40 for children who are selected. More information can be found here on the Festival website: http://musicfestival.school.nz/?page_id=917

If you would like your child to audition for a representative group, please see Erin Sutherland (HB16 or Reading Recovery room beside the library), or email erins@clearview.school.nz.
