Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

It was a pleasure to see such a wonderful turnout for our Learning Partnership Meetings held on Monday and Tuesday this week.  We truly value your input into how your child learns best and it's great to be able to connect with you as we start off the year.

Our school continues to be a hive of activity with many opportunities on offer for students to engage with.  Today, we have the Year 5-8 Swimming Sports being held at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre.  We also have the Clearview Senior Cricket Team playing against West Melton School, at West Melton in the knock-out Canterbury Year 7/8 Cricket competition.  Last week our team was victorious against Darfield High School and have progressed through to the next round.  I wish them all the very best for today's game.

On Monday, the Senior Choir came together for the first time in 2021 under the instruction of Trisa Espiner and we had a phenomenal 70 students in attendance for the first practice of the year.  This year, our Senior Choir will be building up to the Music Festival to be held in November which we are very much looking forward to as last year's event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

We are all very aware of the ever-changing situation surrounding  COVID-19.  It astounds me how quickly things can change and we were reminded of this when we had to scale back up alert levels to Alert Level 2 early last week.  Along with other schools and workplaces, we had to respond quickly by communicating relevant information to everyone and implementing new health and safety protocols.  THANK YOU very much for your support and understanding with these changes - it makes a huge difference to us knowing that we have a parent community that responds positively to situations such as these.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

This year, we are starting our journey into a 3 year programme called 'Positive Behaviour for Learning" or PB4L (for short).  This programme helps schools develop a framework that promotes a positive, inclusive culture and climate.  On page 34 of the NZ Curriculum it says;

"Students learn best when they feel accepted, when they enjoy positive relationships with their fellow students and teachers, and when they are able to be active, visible members of the learning community.  Effective teachers foster positive relationships within environments that are caring, inclusive, non-discriminatory, and cohesive".

This is important to us, so we have made a commitment as a school to cultivate and grow our school-wide practices of managing behaviour over the next few years.  To gain a more in-depth understanding of what PB4L is and how it will benefit our school, we have written a separate article that will help explain further.  Please take a moment to read this if you are interested to learn more.

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend.
