Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers / Whanau

School life has continued to be action-packed over the past few weeks and it looks set to continue as we head into the second half of the term.  Next week, Team Tāiri (Yr5/6) are heading to Woodend for their camp.  There has been a lot of organisation and preparation building up to camp week and I thank Mrs Morriss (Team Leader) and the teachers for their extra hard work in preparing for the camp as well as the parents who are giving up their precious time to attend camp and help out, it's much appreciated.  I wish the students a fun, enjoyable and safe experience and look forward to hearing all about it upon their return.

COVID-19

Today's newsletter has an update on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) which I encourage you to read. It just so happens that today, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has classed this as a pandemic.  For NZ, this does not change anything and the Minister of Health has made this message clear.

There are still border restrictions in NZ, a requirement to self-isolate on arrival in New Zealand from China, Iran, Italy and the Republic of Korea and immediate and detailed contact tracing of any confirmed cases have all been put in place to minimise risk to those in New Zealand.

It is important to note those four countries account for more than 90% of cases globally and China and the Republic of Korea have significantly declining numbers of new cases.  As mentioned above, more information about this is detailed in a separate article in our newsletter.

Teacher Only Days in 2020

As part of the new Primary Teachers Collective Agreement, all primary schools have been granted 8 Teacher Only Days to use by mid-2022 to support the wellbeing and workload of our teachers. Our school Teacher Only Days for 2020 are as follows:-

  • Friday 29 May (Friday of Queens Birthday weekend)
  • Monday 16 November (Monday following Show Weekend)

School will be closed on these days so we ask that you find alternative arrangements for the care of your children.

Please enjoy the rest of your week and have a lovely weekend.

Ngā mihi nui
