Grandparents' Reading and Book Return Volunteers

Tracey Young —

We are looking to continue building the Grandparents' reading time for some of our Uranga team children. This would involve being available for a regular time-slot each week to listen to children read their books. Any reliable grandparent or retired person with time to spare would be welcome. We often find that children form special relationships with older members of our community.

Before you start we will offer you some ideas on how you can help children read. You will not need to bring anything with you - just a smile and the time to listen. We would timetable a small group of children who would come and read with you individually in one of our quiet spaces. This would be the same group of children each week to make it easier to get to know each other.

Parents, please feel free to pass this email on to any interested grandparents.  Once we have a group of interested people, we will be in touch to arrange a suitable time for a short training.

We have also been very lucky to have Lisa Martin volunteer her time every Friday to complete our reading book returns.  Lisa has now secured work on this day so is no longer able to do this role.  We are ideally looking for two people to do this job as once the term is in full swing there are quite a few books to return.

If you are interested in either of these roles, please get in touch via email at traceyy@clearview.school.nz

We appreciate your continued support!
