Lincoln Rotary Quiz

Tracey Young —

Congratulations to Michael P and Alexander S who came second in the annual Rotary Quiz. Ka pai tō mahi team!

I was very fortunate on Tuesday night to attend the annual Rotary Quiz night for Year 7 and 8 students with Michael P and Alexander S. They represented Clearview confidently and came 2nd overall in the competition.  We are so proud of their achievement!

The competition consisted of 4 rounds of 10 questions.  The questions were generated by the 20 schools represented on the night.  A few of the questions are listed below:

  • What is the name of the Weasley's house from the Harry Potter series?  (The burrow)
  • How many valves does a heart have? (4)

A huge thank you to David Drake and the Rotary team for organizing this fantastic event each year.  A special thank you to Mel S and Paula P for supporting the boys on the night and also taking part in the quiz.

From the Boys:

On Tuesday the 25th of May, myself (Alexander Stenhouse), and Michael Pearson attended the Rotary Quiz of 2021, representing Clearview Primary. We were studying for about 4 weeks before the quiz actually started, and all the info we had gathered over those 4 weeks was useless, because the questions we had gotten were totally different to the ones we had studied, so going into it was very unexpected with the questions but decently simple and a little bit of hard sprinkled in. But we gave them no mercy, we came up with the hardest possible questions we could think of.

One of which was who was the leader of the Communist party during WWII but I’m not gonna say (you could just search it up online). In the first round, most of the questions were difficult to answer, and we only got 6. That placed us in 11th place. The second round was very much the same, where we only got 7 points, but that then pushed us up to 6th place.

The third round was where the fun began. We got one of our questions we made, so we had a guaranteed point. That round we also got 7, but because the questions were sort of difficult, we got pushed up to 3rd place.

This is the moment we were thinking, “Hey, we got a shot at this”. Then came the fourth and final round, with some very difficult questions, so we had to make a few educated guesses, but we prevailed, and got 8 points, pushing us to a 2nd place podium.

The Rotary quiz was one of the most fun things we have ever done, and we would definitely do it again.
