Message from the Principal

Rob Rush —

Kia ora e te whanau!

For the first time in a number of years, we have held Book Week this week.  It has been such a successful week with children and families flowing in and out of the library, viewing books on sale, we have had story reading sessions and tomorrow it's Book Character Day which is a chance to dress up for a bit of fun.

Kate Hawes, our librarian along with Ms Tania Soal have done an amazing job planning and organising the week.  I extend my sincere thanks to them both for their time and mahi (work).  Thanks too must go to everyone who have supported Book Week, it's been such a positive few days with a spotlight on reading.

On Tuesday evening, we entered a Year 8 team into The Selwyn Rotary Quiz event held at Lincoln University. Great news......our team of 2 achieved a 2nd place award!  I'm so proud of Alex and Michael - what a fantastic achievement!

It's hard to believe but next week, one of our highly respected leaders will be leaving Clearview Primary after 9 years of service to our school.  As I mentioned in a newsletter late last term, Mrs Tracey Young has been appointed as Principal of Wharenui School and she will take up this position at the beginning of Week 6.  Tracey has been a true asset to our school and a pleasure to work with.  Her kind, calm, friendly and professional manner has earned her much mana from across our school community and I know she will make an outstanding Principal. I wish her all the very best for her final few days with us, we will be sure to give her a fitting and well-deserved send-off next week.

In addition to this, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Mrs Katie Morriss will step into the role as Associate Principal until the end of this year.  Katie is very well known to our students, staff and community as she has worked at Clearview since 2011 as a teacher and more recently as team Leader of Team Tairi (Yr 5/6).  Katie will start in her new role at the beginning of Week 6 and I very much look forward to having her on our Senior Leadership Team alongside Dion and I.

Finally, just a friendly reminder that next Friday 4th June, our school will be closed for a Teacher Only Day.  We are bringing all school staff from within our Community of Learning / Kahui Ako together for a professional development conference day.

I wish you a positive end to the week and a relaxing weekend.

Noho ora mai nā (Stay well / take care of yourself)
