Advantages and benefits of BYOD

BYOD promotes greater participation in the classroom and encourages students to take ownership of their own learning. When new technologies are incorporated into everyday learning, students quickly become more interested in the material and are more likely to succeed.  BYOD increases engagement among students, therefore, leading to promoting and sharing of ideas. When students have full access to their devices and with the availability of free WiFi internet connectivity, they can rely on a stable network to complete their work in real time. Teachers and students can share information and notes through mobile apps such as Google Docs, Evernote, etc. Students can freely access this data anytime, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Here's what the students say:

  • You always have a device to use

  • You're always logged into your accounts ( Google, etc)

  • It’s nice being able to use your own device at school

  • You work together on things at the same time

  • You know how the device works and what’s on it

  • Phones can be used for learning as well

  • Everything is on it so you can do work at home

  • School computers can be a bit grubby sometimes

  • You can use features such as cameras to screenshot written notes
